Majestic Garden Paths
The
Inverugie garden is a large established country garden over 3 acres (1.22ha) open
from Oct to March every year.
In 1972 we purchased
Inverugie
Farm, 400 acres (161 hectares) flat dry land and thistles; but now it looks
totally different .
This majestic garden project was developed in 4 stages from
1980 till present. Local gray stone has been widely used on creating edges and interesting pathways
as well as the walls of the homestead.
The original old wooden house was used as the first Carew Presbyterian Church in 1889, services were held there until 1904 when the Carew school was built
then worship services were held there.
Some original trees have been under planted with a variety of
bulbs, ground covers and many perennials. Rhododendrons , Camellias, Azaleas and
Rose gardens in several areas add brilliant colour.
Friendly Doves and bird life add tranquility and an excitement
to each morning. Raised boxed vegetable gardens, commonly known "as
square foot gardening" use rich organic vermicompost
(compost made by using tiger worms);
and compost made directly from Inverugie Garden.
